A Couple of Realizations....

There are two parts to the cake decorating I don't much care for, both of which have to do with traits of mine that could use some fine tuning: Patience and Procrastination (the latter I could afford to lose altogether). The baking/prepping is kind of tedious and takes (what feels like) FOR-EV-ER (Sandlot, anyone?). Then there's the cleanup part. Not my favorite... at all! But what comes in between... WORTH EVERY BIT! I always used to say making cards was almost therapeutic for me, and now it's the same with decorating cakes. In fact, cakes are basically the edible versions of my cards!

Anyways, hope you enjoy attempt #3! And thanks again for all input, advice, and constructive criticism you have to offer!

P.S. For those of you who don't know, this was supposed to be the "Goochland G" which looks a little something like this:

Gettin' there, right?!

Fear Not!

I apologize for not blogging in a while, I've been in Iowa and Idaho and all the states in between (yes, we ventured through the floods of North Dakota, too)! I've also been waiting for some good pictures of my second attempt. I made two cakes for my dear friend Linda's retirement party! I was pretty proud of myself, but let me just tell you that lessons were still learned along the way, like...
1. More counter space IS awesome and necessary!

2. There are 8 letters in "congrats", not 6 (found that out the hard way of making the bubbles, then as I was filling them in and got to the second to last one, I noticed I was going to need a few more; therefore, I was going to need to start this lil top part over)!
3. I go through eggs like crazy, and feel quite wasteful when the recipe calls for only egg whites. Any suggestions as to what I could use the yolks for are greatly appreciated (p.s. I don't eat eggs).
4. Making frosting colors is fun! And, I now know why I've been keeping all those yogurt containers!
5. Cake boxes are THE BEST, and they make my cakes look closer to professional.
... there were many more lessons, but you get the gist for now!

Today's task is to make a sheet cake for a friends birthday party! I was told he likes golf, fishing, and The Bulldogs. Since I'm still learning, I think I'm going to stick with a Bulldogs theme. Wish me luck! I'll be sharing soon!
As always, input is always welcomed and appreciated!!
